Trans Anal Total Mesorectal Excision (2015)
This video reports the novel approach of combining single incision surgery and transanal rectal excision for restorative proctocolectomy and formation of iloanal pouch. The technique has the ability to minimise the surgical trauma and allow safe distal rectal dissection especially in males with a narrow pelvis. The video has been submitted and accepted with the related paper by Colorectal Disease Journal in April 2016.
Laparoscopy – Anterior Resection of the Rectum with TME (2014)
This video demonstrates the technique of laparoscopic anterior resection of rectum with Total Mesorectal Excision (TME). The laparoscopic approach is rapidly becoming the standard procedure for segmental colectomy and there is increasing demand for surgeons who are skilled in this area. The standardisation of Total Mesorectal Excision, or TME as it has become known, has improved outcomes following rectal cancer surgery, mainly due to the reduction in local recurrence. Well-performed laparoscopic …
Laparoscopic Segmental Left Colectomy (2014)
This video demonstrates the technique of laparoscopic segmental left colectomy. The laparoscopic approach is rapidly becoming the standard procedure for segmental colectomy and there is increasing demand for surgeons who are skilled in this area. Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has increased exponentially in the UK and has benefits to both the patient and the institution. When combined with an enhanced recovery programme, significant reduction in length of stay can be achieved, coupled with an …
Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy – Appendix 3 – Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy with Thunderbeat (no sound) (2013)
This video demonstrates the technique of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. The laparoscopic approach is rapidly becoming the standard procedure for segmental colectomy and there is increasing demand for surgeons who are skilled in this area. Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has increased exponentially in the UK and has benefits to both the patient and the institution. When combined with an enhanced recovery programme, significant reduction in length of stay can be achieved, coupled with an early …
Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy – Appendix 2 – Technical Tips (2013)
This video demonstrates the technique of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. The laparoscopic approach is rapidly becoming the standard procedure for segmental colectomy and there is increasing demand for surgeons who are skilled in this area. Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has increased exponentially in the UK and has benefits to both the patient and the institution. When combined with an enhanced recovery programme, significant reduction in length of stay can be achieved, coupled with an early …
Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy – Appendix 1 – Arterial Variations in Right Hemicolectomy (2013)
The Northover Collection Part 2 – Anterior Resection Seminar (2012)
Professor John Northover retired from St Mark’s in May 2012. The Northover collection records some of his final contributions as a staff member to the life of the hospital. Part 2: Anterior Resection Seminar This seminar aimed to illustrate the process of self-criticism and incremental progress in improving personal surgical technique, rather than simply describing the operation of anterior resection.
The Northover Collection Part 1 – Rectal Prolapse Lecture (2012)
Professor John Northover retired from St Mark’s in May 2012. The Northover collection records some of his final contributions as a staff member to the life of the hospital. Part 1: Rectal Prolapse Lecture This lecture traced the development of today’s operative procedures for rectal prolapse and went on to compare the relative pros and cons of today’s options; highlighting the lack of objective evidence to underpin these comparisons. Finally it oulined the results of the only large randomised …
